I never felt like I was qualified to talk about anything political, particularly because it was associated with really angry people and lots of Facebook arguments (where nobody really won because their opinions were facts in their eyes). I was intimated by all the political jargon that came with it and it led me to become passive about it all together - like exercising my right to vote, being aware with what's going on in the government, being educated with the system in America, and so on.
If there is anything that the outcry of this 2017 election taught me, it was that I need to become more proactive about my civil rights and I need to start using them now (like being involved in the local government and actually being informed with what's going on). Now while I admit to my *past* passivity about these issues, I need to speak up about something more important.
There is so much anger and disrespect flooding the media, and let me tell you that that will accomplish nothing. Yes, let your anger turn into a positive action of change, but anger by itself is destructive. It does literally nothing. If anything, I think it would push people away from wanting to be involved in politics and actively engage in the conversation as well.
My goal here isn't to minimize the real life issues that need to be vocalized. All I want to say is that we need to pray over our leader, our local government officials, our country, etc. We need to pray over Trump's heart and let God change it (1 Timothy 2:1-3) and we need God to change our hearts too. With any change, it all starts at the heart. But that being said, we need to endlessly and passionately fight for our minority friends for those who will not. And we need to extend a helping and loving hand for those who cannot do the same. Passivity won't solve a thing and won't anger.
